we just got back from a long weekend in virginia because this boy just turned 5.

the air was so thick with their love for each other that it was hard to catch my breath. even still, looking through the images of their family, my heart speeds. they are a comfortable tangle of skinny elbows, bruised knees and tiny, tan, bare feet. they do life together about as good as any family i’ve ever seen. i’m feeling really grateful for the unique opportunity i have to step into the lives of families and attempt to snap their love into still images. thank you, thank you, thank you.

we’re off to smith mountain lake for a wedding this weekend and to spend some time with our virginia littles. i wanted to leave you with a little cupcake to nibble on throughout the weekend. meet 2 year old brilee and her trusty sidekick, woof woof.

i’m a wannabe – a wannabe broadway star, a wannabe poker player and a wannabe jogger. i also wannabe part of this family. i’m not asking them to officially adopt me, just invite me over to drink coffee in their kitchen and maybe an occasional cookout. they are just delightful in every sense of the word.

it was hot, like sweat through your clothes kind of hot. and cooper is one, like i just want to hit the ground running kind of one. in order to get a picture of his adorable face, we had to throw him, squeeze him and flip him upside down. *disclaimer: no child was harmed in the taking of these pictures. at the end we were all dripping wet and exhausted, but it was worth it.

she’s one part curls and tutu mixed with one part trucks and skinned up knees. the last time we saw eloise she was crawling and scooting but she has officially mastered the run in the opposite direction of the camera trick. lucky for her, she’s totally worth the chase. allison, mike & eloise have a way of making you want to be with them and simmer in the love that is their family. i love how in this first picture, her feet are in first position like a true ballerina.

at 33, i have never had a cavity or braces and like to brag on this little tidbit of mine at every opportunity, especially when i meet a dentist. i’m humble like that. mark is a dentist and it’s obvious after one look at his wife and girls that he’s an expert smile maker. he loves them and they know it. they know it all the way down to their toes. they’re proud to be his and he’s proud to be theirs. you can tell it just looking at him. his smile cannot be contained as he gazes at his three, giggling, ever satisfying lovelies.

when this shoot was over i looked at chris in the car and asked, “how can we convince them to be our friends?” we may or may not have seen them the following weekend.

weekend at burnley’s

we had our 4 year old niece, burnley, for a few days while her parents celebrated their 10 year anniversary in the caribbean. we swam and watched fireworks, ate at ‘chick-a-lay’ and painted our toes a delicious shade of glittery pink. we went to starbucks and the bookstore and made paper art with supplies we picked up from the local scrapbook store. we had a picnic in the front lawn and a dance party in the bathroom. we played 73 rousing games of fancy nancy (her pick) and 1 game of sequence (my pick). she informed me that ‘shineese food is gross’ and ‘uncle chris is berry silly.’ and she taught me that all tough decisions are made simple by four little words. eenie, meenie, miney and mo.
