i have a slight obsession with aprons as you may remember from here. my friend emily has her own little etsy shop where her vibrant color choices and delicious fabrics make for some serious swooning by yours truly. she loves what she does, i love what she does, and you will too.

in her words: in the past few years i’ve discovered that i love to sew. it’s relaxing, creative, has a final product – things I need or desire on a daily basis. i love being able to give handmade gifts that i know someone will use and enjoy . . . and when i started sewing aprons a few years ago it was from that framework. my favorite store on earth is mary jo’s cloth store . . . i go there just to walk around sometimes after a stressful day at work. i love fabrics and experiencing the transformation of a yard of fabric into something fun and functional. all of the aprons and oven mitts that i make are from designer fabrics that i am drawn to for their bold and/or contrasting patterns or colors. i get excited when i purchase new fabrics and have new ideas for things to sew and create. ~ emily

i love this quote from sam thacker. it’s true. i mean, my gift is certainly not singing but as a photographer, i want my pictures to instigate. to stir people’s hearts. and the only way to really get to that place is to be willing to make my own vulnerable. chris shot these pictures at the evening muse last thursday and i love the way they turned out.

sallie ford & the sound outside

normally, the opening act is something i drink through, talk through, apply lipgloss to or more often than not, skip all together. sallie ford & the sound outside was the opening band for the avett brothers new years eve show. lucky for me, chris had purchased their cd, not an animal beforehand. we listened to it all the way to asheville and by the time we pulled in to our hotel, we were hooked. my favorite song is called danger. it has been stuck in my head now for almost 2 weeks, but in a good way. not in the annoying way that drop it like it’s hot or those awful kay jewelry jingles do.

while i was in virginia meeting my new niece last week, chris got the opportunity to take pictures of sallie ford and her band before and during their show at the visualite. yes, they’re insanely talented, that’s undeniable. but what i loved most about hearing chris recall his time with them was how lovely they were. how they were humble, unassuming, funny and gracious. and that’s reason enough why i’ll go to their shows, buy their music and continue to butcher danger in my shower.

eden & eric

everyone is asking me about the ‘underwater wedding’ and how it went, so without further ado…:) eden and eric’s wedding was supposed to take place in her parents’ back yard. no detail was left unplanned except of course for the 5 feet of water that unexpectedly flooded the ceremony/reception spot days before the event was to take place. now most brides would fall apart, but not eden. she sent me an email that said her family was busy painting, rearranging, and laughing, yes laughing at what a great story this would be. they moved everything to the driveway where they created a wedding wonderland on asphalt. it rained the entire day which meant we took pictures in bedrooms, a living room, and on a small covered patio. the bride never frowned at the storm clouds that seemed to be never ending, she didn’t complain about the way the humidity might mess up her hair and she never mentioned how crazy it was to be photographing her bridesmaids next to her mom and dad’s dresser. she just kept repeating over and over, “i can’t wait to see him..” what a sweet reminder of what the day was really about – God’s faithfulness, patience, beauty, provision and love.

the rings

this is how excited eden got each time a bridesmaid walked in. love her.

there's something about this picture that i just love. eden in the background had just slipped into her dress and surrounding her were her closest friends. supporting her, loving her and telling her that no bride had ever looked so lovely.

she looked like a classic, vintage beauty

due to the rain, the whole wedding party had to stay inside the house. eric waited patiently in this little corner..

i’ve been accused of gushing when talking about my nieces and nephews. moi? i mean, can i help it that they are the smartest, cutest, funniest kids around? is it my fault that my camera is drawn to their faces like a moth to a light? i say no. BUT today, i’ll agree to pass on the gushing. i’ll just show you their faces from their birthday parties and let you create your own unbiased opinions about the smartest, cutest, funniest kids around. i’ll just say this. i’m glad for them. i’m glad that i am their ‘doo doo’. i’m glad that they are my little sweets. and i am so very glad that we belong to each other. they make my world sunnier.

this is the face of a girl who just saw her strawberry shortcake spread laid out for no other reason except to bring her delight.

oh, that sweet, sweet face. i will not gush.

ty was so happy with his 'gi joe, army man, snake eyes' party that he broke out in the robot.

while this may look cruel, ty was laughing hysterically at uncle jordan and uncle chris's water bombing.

i'm posting this one for chris..he loves it (and he took it). i'm guessing there is a correlation.

will's birthday isn't until next month, but he was all about celebrating his brother

i love parties. i love throwing them, i love attending them and i realllly love taking pictures of them. it’s especially fun when the birthday girl is so precious and when the mama lets no detail go unnoticed. meet mckinley, she just turned one. she is the juiciest baby ever! wait until you see her cheeks… edible. speaking of edible, how cute are these little sandwiches?

young life 5k

young life is a beautiful ministry that brings the good news of the gospel and the love of Jesus to young people. young life was an integral part of chris’ walk with christ as a high school student and we were honored to take pictures at their annual 5k this year. www.younglife.org.

here’s the story of the race as we saw it through our lenses.

: they arrived at lowe’s motor speedway on 3/22 at around 8:45 sporting their best gear

they brought their favorite music

and of course, their water

they talked strategy

and checked out their competition..look in his sunglasses

they came in twos

they came in threes

and on this chilly morning, they came with spirit

at four years old its hard for a boy to make up his mind. i mean, the possibilities are endless when planning your birthday party and you do only turn four once. jack decided he wanted a cars party and then two weeks before the big day he changed his mind to a star wars party. so, what’s a mom to do? she’ll combine the two to make her boy happy. a little bit of lightning mcqueen mixed with darth vader. use the force, ka-chow!

what could be sweeter than a birthday celebration with pink lemonade, polka dot cupcakes, a music class and a cutiepie birthday girl? i loved spending valentine’s day morning at reese’s party. and the last picture with her parents snuggling her..seriously, stop it.

these pictures tell a story. see bennett all dressed up in his orange birthday outfit. see bennett introduced to cake with layers of sticky frosting. see bennett inhale the sugary goodness so quickly that some goes up his left nostril. see bennett mash the leftover cake into a spongey mudpie. see bennett change into his birthday suit when cute orange vest becomes covered in said sugary goodness. see bennett melt our hearts with that drool-y, toothless smile.
