looking through these images over the last two days, i am brought back to this day in birmingham, alabama. the bride, the groom, the sunshine, the love, the details, become more beautiful every time i go there. i had to break this post up into two parts because i just couldn’t choose. thank you rachel and michael for inviting us into such sacred space. we are incredibly honored to call you friends. we love you..a whole lot.

i remember the first time i met her she was carrying a binder filled with pictures and checklists and to do’s for her wedding. she’s very much into the details. she was planning a wedding at a beautiful, rock castle in asheville. her guests would be seated under trees and she would walk down rock steps escorted by her brother. she’d round the corner of the grassy aisle and lock eyes with her handsome groom. she had even checked the famer’s almanac that had boasted of unseasonably warm air and blue skies. but as the day approached, it was clear that a wedding crasher was coming to the celebration: rain. her outdoor ceremony/reception would be moved indoors. there was a minute that i thought she might cry, but she took a deep breath and smiled and said that it was going to be ok. and it was, it was better than ok. chantal was a gorgeous bride. she grabbed her dress on either side as to not drag it into any mudpuddles and darted from umbrealla to covered porch. she giggled and shook her head at the thunder and got choked up as we talked about greg. it seemed the more chaotic the day got, the lovelier she became. the epitome of grace under pressure. and of course, the day was beautiful regardless of the gray skies. they were radiant together mingling with friends and dancing to usher. i hope that they weather all of life’s little storms this beautifully and that they do it together. life is going to be sweet for them, i just know it. congratualtions chatal & greg!

the ringbearer was just about the cutest thing my eyes had ever seen.. but, there was one problem. he did not under any circumstance want his picture taken. no way, not a chance, not going to happen. unless..i could beat him in a foot race.

mary & eric {married}

we loved spending the day with mary and eric and all of their friends and family. she was lovely and calm and surrounded by attentive and silly bridesmaids. he was handsome and patient and smitten with his new bride. it was seriously hot that day but they never complained. it’s possible that they didn’t even notice. they danced and laughed and snuck dance floor kisses throughout the night. they exited to a sparkler send off with all of their guests yelling and whistling. they turned back only for a second to wave goodbye. mary held her dress with one hand and grabbed eric with the other and off they went to live happily ever after.

as we get older our story gets shorter. we feel that the less we say about ourselves, the more accurate we are. when we are young, we need a 5 page resume to describe our degrees, our accomplishments, our strengths and our awards. maybe we do this in an attempt to try and justify the space we’re taking up on this earth. i’m not sure, but i’m finding that the older i get, the more i want to be identified in a one sentence description like: she loves well. i say all of this because i’m struggling this morning to put words to this couple and to this wedding. my small vocabulary doesn’t cut it to describe the beauty, the anticipation, the joy and the overall goodness of the day. i don’t have the words to accurately tell you how lovely laura looked when she was reading the card sent over by grant and how she bit down on her lip to unsuccessfully stop the quivering. it’s hard for me to describe grant’s face as laura took her first step down the aisle in his direction. so please forgive me as i reduce this day to 7 words.

grant and laura were meant to be.

there’s something about mary

it’s in the way she finds such joy teaching special needs children and in the way she gives of herself . it’s in her raspy laugh and her freckled skin. it’s in her generous heart and her joyful spirit. it’s in the way she takes being a good friend as serious business. it’s in the way she loves her family and a good glass of wine. and it’s in the way when she slipped on this wedding dress, the room grew silent and everyone stared. there’s just something about mary, that leaves you longing for more. she was married yesterday to the boy she loves. more on that to come….

katie & stephen {married}

if it’s true what they say about rain and clouds on your wedding day bringing good fortune, then katie and stephen are in for the luckiest lives ever. it poured the day of katie’s bridal portraits and then the gray skies rolled in once again for wedding day but it didn’t phase her or stephen a bit. they were married in greenville which is my new favorite southern city and had their reception at the historic westin downtown.

we loved spending the day with katie and stephen’s family and friends and will be nominating them all if a tv show called, so you think your family can dance is ever brought to our attention!

sarah & jose {married}

she spent lots of days at this farm as a little girl and always knew she’d get married here. but i wonder if she knew it would be this good. that she would look this beautiful. that he would gobble her up with his eyes as she glided down the aisle. that her daddy would smile and weep as she danced the first dance with her new husband. that the skies would betray the forecast for rain and stay clear the entire night. that all of her friends and family would gather round and celebrate under the stars on the evening that she married the man of her dreams. congratulations sarah and jose. we loved sharing this day with you!

this picture of her dad watching her dance makes me tear up every time i see it.
