coming soon!

my house, your house, and a FREE photo shoot :)

i love how every  home tells a story. it’s a visual journal of  the people who sleep there and the people who just pass through for a cup of coffee or a game of spades. i hope the story that my home tells, reads a little something like this:

this is a place where kisses and laughter are in abundance. it’s a spot where you’re free to be yourself and messy hair and makeup free faces are highly encouraged. fingerprints on the windows and stainless appliances are welcome here, especially if they’re little. there are no ‘do not touch’ signs around this place, so get comfy. we’re kind of quirky and that’s why our bathroom is wallpapered in brown grocery bags and we use an old ladder as a magazine rack. my laundry room says, ‘this chick hates to fold clothes’ and it’s the spot that is least visited. these walls hold tales of breakfasts in bed and shared pillowtalk dreams. they’ve heard bad jokes, even worse singing, words that couldn’t be taken back, and cries over unanswered prayer. if you saw our tv, you’d know our house says we’d rather play a game and have an amazing game closet at the end of our hallway to prove it. if you’re thirsty please feel free to open my fridge and grab a drink. you’ll probably find these choices: skim milk, tangerine mango orange juice, gatorade, pellegrino, and coronas. and if you look below, you’ll see where you can find a lime. it’s an old grocery store scale and it makes me happy every time i pass it.

this old convenient store sign decorates or kitchen wall. it's one of chris' favorite things in our house.

an old oil can is the perfect thing to hold my rings. i was inspired by an anthropologie display for this one.

i love books and have them in every room in my house. we bought this old locker which holds some good reads in our living room.

now to the second part of this post. i have this photo fantasy where i take pictures of people simply living. i want to see you and your house and i want to photograph you baking cookies, building leggo castles, piled on your bed reading books, on your front porch drinking wine, playing football in the backyard, whatever you and your family do together. why? because that's the good stuff. the real stuff. my mom, sisters and i used to sit by this old heater that blew out warm air and read books together when i was a little girl. oh, how i'd love just one picture of us with our footed pjs and our pile of dr. suess books. so, let me know if i can spend a few hours with you at your house capturing you and your family living life together. your kitchen doesn't need to look like a williams-sonoma ad. heck, you don't even have to do your dishes. so, leave a comment by sunday, august 1st at midnight and i'll randomly choose a winner for a FREE photo shoot!. the only rule is that you all have to live in the same house. :) travel expenses will apply if you live outside of the charlotte area.

August 20, 2009 - 1:09 pm Lisa Wilson - Wow!!! Amazing is all I can say! I came to your webiste as a result of being an Aunt to Zane!!! His pics are gorgeous and I got curious so I kept looking! WOW!!! I have 3 boys so the pics you could take at my house would be great. And, I don't have to clean up!!! Even better!

August 5, 2009 - 12:47 pm Todd Inman - Put me in the hat for a free photo shoot. I could use it for the CD I'm trying to put out in the near future. I hope I still can be in the drawing even if I know you and maybe I can use the old basketball tapes of all you girls cheerleading at our games. HAHA. just kidding.

August 3, 2009 - 12:25 pm Susan - Hey Jenn. Sandy P. shared with me you site. What a great idea! Please put my name in the hat!!!

August 2, 2009 - 6:43 pm shana - oooh! we'd love to throw our name in the hat too!!! we LOVE your work and would be privileged to have you over for a photo shoot!!!!

August 2, 2009 - 11:46 am Nick McCollum - What a great idea! If you did enough of these kind of shoots you could turn it into a pretty cool book. And if you end up doing said book we want in. But even if you don't, Juliana, Caroline, and I would love to have the Hunts be more a part of our world - and some credit when the book comes out. By the way, did I mention that we likely have the cutest 7 1/2 month old in the world? But I'm biased...

August 2, 2009 - 9:11 am Aunt Darlene - Oh how I remember that same heater....sweet warm memories. I must admit i do have cute boys, but they are too grown up and one is out trucking around the country and one is so busy with sports and enjoying being a teenager. I do bake and drink wine and I like to share so when ever you would like to visit come on up. Love you xo

August 1, 2009 - 2:54 pm Shellie Mitchell - Oh my gosh Jen...I would just feel so honored if I won this generous photo shoot. I have admired all the pictures of Finn that you have done for Tricia and come here often to see all of your other incredible photos. I live in Lancaster, SC (in a house built in 1960) which is about 25 min. south of Ballentyne area so hopefully you would still come this far someday. I have been hoping to save up and hire you to take photos of my little guy (London) so either way I feel sure that someday soon I will get the pleasure of enjoying your work of my family. Take care and WOW someone is gonna be lucky! Shellie

August 1, 2009 - 1:12 pm Kelly Martino - Our family would love shoot #2 with you guys!

August 1, 2009 - 4:42 am Lauren Wescott - I just LOVE all your pictures! You capture some amazingly precious moments. ~Lauren

July 31, 2009 - 8:07 pm Ashley Gordon - Hi Jen, Love your blog, Love your writing, Love your pics! Myles and I and our girls are moving into your neighborhood. We would love to hang out with you and Chris. Hope to see you soon, we move-in in just 2 weeks!

July 31, 2009 - 3:14 pm Rhonda - Okay, so the fast reader (aka... AIRHEAD) in me was considering staying up 'til midnight tomorrow night to post a comment! As a mom who gets VERY LITTLE SLEEP, that's a huge deal. So if that doesn't scream commitment to having a shot at winning, I don't know what does! LUCKILY, I reread.

July 31, 2009 - 7:34 am CC Reynolds - I would love to win this for a friend who has a fam of 6... her bday is coming up and there would be NO BETTER GIFT than some of your delicious work!

July 31, 2009 - 6:06 am liza - pick me please!! we'd be the best subjects!

July 30, 2009 - 6:27 pm jennifer l - you are always welcome in our house with our active 2 year old and his best friend, our dog. We would love for you to coment and take your beautiful pictures....I could get all the Passantes' here for you!!!"

July 30, 2009 - 4:52 pm Grace Martin - LOVE your pictures, LOVE your posts! Your pictures jump off the page they are so real life!

July 30, 2009 - 12:27 pm wendy b. - Your writing is as beautifully descriptive as your photographs. Stowe has an idea for a book about the 'pageantry of everyday life'. Moved by simple images of people doing what they do daily, he guesses about their conversations, relationships, quirks, and the lives they lead, both perceived & real. I don't know if that will be the actual title of the book or if it will ever even get written, but the photographs you describe would be the perfect illustration! We'd love to have you photograph us in our home & our backyard with our kids... running, jumping, laughing, crying, & really living

July 30, 2009 - 11:58 am Chris Harris - Nothing better than just hanging with the Hunts...might as well throw in some free pictures!

July 30, 2009 - 11:20 am Sara Slone - You're coming here next Friday, but would love to have you back for another shoot. :) Our home has unmade beds, toys all over and a huge island in the kitchen made for dumping anything and everything (or perfect for a big ol' game of L-C-R)...but we love it! Besides the mess, you'll find a loving couple, 2 adorable boys and a sweet, sweet 8 year old puppy. Can't wait to meet you!

July 30, 2009 - 11:01 am Jennifer Briggs - I'll happily not do my dishes for you!

July 30, 2009 - 10:52 am Marcia - You know the Folnsbee's love any excuse to spend time with the Hunt's and since we're adding one more Folnsbee to our home, what perfect timing to introduce him to you!!

July 30, 2009 - 10:46 am Heather Witt - oh how I would love to be picked. 3 adorable children, carpet stains, smudged kitchen door, toys all over the place,a messy masterbedroom from me being too tired to clean it and one amazing front porch with 4 black rockers and a ceiling fan calling your name! Oh, and an adorable husband and a cat named Dingo! We would be blessed to have you and your amazing talent in our home!

July 30, 2009 - 7:59 am Heather Storkson - It would be an honor to have you photograph our family. At our house it's all about the D-O-G-S!

July 30, 2009 - 7:45 am Kim - Well, I don't have any kids to shoot but I do have a fiance, pup and kitty. I would be thrilled to have you in my home taking pictures since I am all about my house and its charm.

July 30, 2009 - 6:53 am Patrice Moore Andrew - I would love for you to shoot photos of my family, and home. We are very simple, and live very simle lives but I have two kids and one on the way, and I love capturing memories. I just asked Stephanie about you doing pictures for my family the other day.

July 30, 2009 - 5:33 am Graylynn - What a great idea! My husband and I would love to have you come to our house to shoot us "living". We live in a sweet neighborhood (Olde Providence) and have been very blessed. Would love for you to capture that!

July 29, 2009 - 8:51 pm Aidan Penninger - I'll cast our lot in. With 4 beautiful kids ranging in age from 13 to 3 months, 2 dogs, 17 birds, 1 cat and an endless amount of neighborhood children around there's never a dull moment in our house.

July 29, 2009 - 8:12 pm Donald Smiley - I don't know where to begin to sell you on coming up here to Sioux Falls to do a photo shoot. First, I think you would a better job than Tanya's mother for a photo shoot with me, Tanya, and Noah our newest addition to the family, As well as the 2 cats Jessi and Muffin, the retriever mix Windsor, and our domesticated rat, Co-Co. Second, the weather is going to be downright gorgeous whenever you come up here. Third, your work up here could have other potential suitors in addition to me as they see the masterful, awe-inspiring, eye catching work that you do. I think you and Chris would enjoy it up here. :)

July 29, 2009 - 7:17 pm Wendy McSwain - Pick me! Pick me! Jen, your work is so inspiring. I'd love for you to capture my little ones.

July 29, 2009 - 7:17 pm Susan and Philip - So maybe we don't qualify since you JUST left our house, but oh my, what a great time we had! Ben has been asking for the two of you since the second he watched you drive away. Now that he knows of the contest, he won't stop jumping up and down saying "Pick Me, Pick Me!" I know that's hard to believe... he was so quiet and calm while you were here. Seriously though, thank you... we really enjoyed our time with you tonight and will look forward to doing it again soon! What fun it would be to get Ben and his cousins together for some pics. Hope you enjoyed your dessert!

July 29, 2009 - 6:51 pm Casey Parrish - Jen - SO good to see you tonight photgraphing my nephew :)! It would be an HONOR to have you in our home. Your work is so good and creative...and we're just right around the corner :). Regardless, hope I see you again soon.

July 29, 2009 - 6:30 pm Jenne - Oh how I would love the Hunts here at our house! We have the same style, because we too have a brown paper bag bathroom with an old ladder holding towels, we haven't seen you in summer months and would love to get GREAT outdoor pictures, and be relaxed because it's not weeks after I have had a baby and I'll be able to say more than, "cute, precious and adorable"...I promise. :) We would be happy to cover travel expenses, and even get some of Kate's friends here to capture the wonderful expressions of children playing together. Does that help to sell us as the winner?

July 29, 2009 - 5:46 pm Aunt Donna - This is a great idea, I know that we wouldn't win, we are family but you know Chris & you are always welcome.

July 29, 2009 - 5:00 pm steph - top 5 reasons to pick our family: 1. you have yet to discover how cute max can be behind the lense 2. our house usually has something being baked inside- and jack believes in extra sprinkles. 3. finger painting here is never limited to paper 4. because sometimes at dinner- we all use our pinchers 5. and well, mostly because we have super cute kids who love their doo doo

July 29, 2009 - 4:40 pm Kippen Priest - Eric, Emma Jane and I would LOVE to be apart of this and have more of your pictures to cherish :)

July 29, 2009 - 3:27 pm Jenn DiVittorio - Jen!It was so great seeing you guys last week. We would LOVE to have you guys back out to our house, and we actually have some furniture now!!! Pick Us!!!

July 29, 2009 - 2:47 pm Renee - I'd LOVE to have you capture more of our family memories!

July 29, 2009 - 2:46 pm Audra Bender - it might be weird to have another photographer post for a free photo shoot but i am in one family picture in the last year and it is blurry. :-) plus we can be fans right? i am one. i also have two adorable munchkins and a jack russell who will for sure try to eat your camera, sounds like fun huh? we are going to be living out of boxes for the next few months as we are moving but we can hang out at the vanlandingham estates and act like it is ours. i bet for sure they would even let us do the dishes, may be one more free thing we get. :-) your house looks awful cute too. my kids could add to your hand prints on the stainless. count the bender family in for the drawing.

July 29, 2009 - 2:37 pm Melissa Hudson - That's a wonderful idea! I'd love to be apart of it!

July 29, 2009 - 2:21 pm Kristie - I love your idea and would love to be a part of your vision!!

July 29, 2009 - 2:01 pm Angela Maynard - Pick my family and my house! That would be so awesome. You could shoot us all outside playing in our backyard, kicking field goals through the goal post my hubby made as a gift to Dylan. Or we can be inside my OLD house built in 1920 with all its old character and charm! :)

July 29, 2009 - 1:47 pm Allison Haun - OHHHH...pick me, pick me. after all we go WAY back to high school biology & english :0)

July 29, 2009 - 1:43 pm Rhonda Govers - We'd love to win a photo shoot! And we have so many subjects. Daddy Drew, Mommy Rhonda, Natalie, Vivian, Forrest, Dog Baxter and Bird Margarita. A group shot would be a challenge though... Rhonda Govers
